About Aurora’s Closet

Aurora’s Closet provides no-cost formal dresses and accessories to women and girls in Arlington, Virginia. We aim to boost confidence and help them feel their best on special occasions. Our mission supports sustainable fashion and community empowerment.

Hi! I am a high school student in Arlington, Virginia, and the founder of Aurora’s Closet, a community initiative created to make special occasions more accessible and more sustainable for everyone.

The idea for Aurora’s Closet began when I started thinking about events like prom and school dances, and how something meant to be joyful can also be stressful or out of reach for many students. At the same time, I became increasingly aware of the amount of clothing (especially formalwear) that is just worn once and then forgotten. Seeing both the financial barriers for some students and the environmental impact of textile waste, I realized there was an opportunity to address both.

Through my Girl Scout Gold Award project, I created Aurora’s Closet to collect and redistribute formalwear at no cost, giving dresses a second life while helping students feel confident and included during important milestones.

What started as a simple idea has grown into a community effort rooted in sustainability, equity, and empowerment.

I have been a Girl Scout for over a decade and a passionate about service, environmental stewardship, and creating meaningful change in my community. 

I hope to continue expanding Aurora’s Closet to reduce waste, increase access, and ensure that every student has the opportunity to feel confident, included, and celebrated—without cost being a barrier.
